“Who says dreams only come in size zero?”

Good question, and it was asked by a former editor of one of the most popular teen magazines in the publishing world, as reported by The Age.

Former Australian Cosmopolitan editor and columnist, Mia Freedman, asked this question to an audience of young people in Australia. She was joined by Australia’s next top model host Sarah Murdoch, and Youth Minister Kate Ellis, in releasing proposals for national strategies on body image. The event took place at Parliament House in Canberra.

”The community is pushing back and saying we’ve had enough of these plastic-fantastic images on the covers of magazines that have no semblance of reality, and no bearing on what an actual human may look like,” Freedman continued.

The report called on the government to standardize sizes on women’s clothing sold in Australia. The government is due to formally respond to these recommendations by next year.
