Lagerfeld lashes out at Brigitte’s image movement

Not everyone is so thrilled with Brigitte Magazine’s decision to veto the use of professional fashion models.

Karl Lagerfeld broke his silence today to Focus news magazine’s website. Brace yourself readers, because if you’re a big fashion fan, the head designer for the house of Chanel is about to become very low in your books.

The fashion icon acknowledged Brigitte’s movement by saying, “No one wants to see curvy women.” He then explained, “You’ve got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly.”

Lagerfeld continued by referring to the fashion world as a world of “dreams and illusions,” and called Brigitte’s decision to use real women “absurd.”

Karl Lagerfeld may run a few of the most beautiful clothing lines known to mankind, but his slurs are all the more reason to place part of the blame on the media and the fashion world for society’s body image problems.
